The Grace Of Silence

It is now two weeks after midwinter; the darkest days are over, and although it is still chilly, we rejoice that Christ has come to us as a child.

Now, we must seek Him.

Like the magi who sat out on foot to find the newborn King, we must eagerly expect to encounter of Lord.

Are you looking?

I had a thought yesterday, while walking with my wife, that when I was young I often thought "if only I saw God work miraculously, I could believe.”

Has anyone else in here felt like that before? Has anyone in here desperately desire to hear God, and hasn't?

Blessed are you!

May you, you whom God has highly favored by withholding his voice, by leaving you in silence, treasure the words that God spoke to his beloved apostle Thomas "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and get her believed."

As we continue in this new year I would like to offer an encouragement to all those who continue trusting and the good news, faithfully laboring despite never having heard his voice, have you never seen his hand; it is you who are truly blessed. To have seen and to believe is one thing, to have faith is quite another.

“Blessed are those who have not seen and get her believed.”

While we live on earth all we have is expectation, which really is just another word for faith, and faith, scripture reminds us, "is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

Let us give thanks for God's goodness and grace, and partake of God's promises.

“The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
